You can delete your Gua account at any time, in the Gua app or on the web. Deletion is permanent: a deleted account cannot be restored.
In the Gua app
- Open Gua and go to Settings.
- Tap Manage account (on Android, Manage account & devices). This opens your Gua account page.
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
On the web
- Go to Gua Support at gua.global/support.
- Ask us to delete your Gua account and include the phone number on the account. Say in your request whether you want your messages hidden.
- We verify that the account is yours, then delete it. The same data is removed and kept as when you delete it in the app.
What deletion does
Deleting your account signs you out everywhere and deactivates it. It removes you from all your conversations and stops anyone from signing in to it again.
If you choose the option to hide your messages while deleting, your display name and profile photo are removed from your profile, and people who join your conversations later do not see your messages.
Being rolled out during the beta
During the beta, removing your directory entry, PIN, passkeys and trusted devices is being rolled out; write to privacy@gua.global to ask for it. Until then, your number still matches in Find friends and stays linked to the deleted account. This covers:
- Your entry in the Gua directory: the protected copy of your phone number, your username and your display name.
- Your sign-in data: the hash of your PIN and the record of your sign-ins, PIN changes and phone number changes.
- Your passkeys.
- Your trusted devices, with the last IP address each one used.
- The link between your phone sign-in and your account, and the copy of your phone number saved with past sign-ins.
What is kept, and why
- A record of your username. Once the removal above is done, this record holds no phone number, PIN or name. It makes sure your username is never given to someone else, who could then pose as you in your old conversations.
- Your account record, with your username, the dates your account was created and deleted, which terms you accepted and when, and which apps you allowed to use your account. It also keeps your username reserved, and Gua cannot currently remove it.
- Messages you already sent. They stay in their conversations, and the people who received them keep their copies. If you choose the option to hide your messages while deleting, people who join those conversations later do not see them.
- Files you uploaded, such as photos, attachments and your old profile photo. They stay in Gua's media storage until a future update removes them.
- Records of ended sign-in sessions, with the IP address and device details, for up to 30 days, to help investigate abuse.
- Server logs, for up to 31 days, to keep Gua running and secure. They can include your username, your IP address and your phone number.
- Short-lived sign-in codes and abuse-prevention counters, which are cleared automatically, most within an hour.
- Your request to Gua Support, if you asked us there to delete your account, with the phone number you included. We keep it as the record of your request until you ask us to remove it at privacy@gua.global.
